This fudge brownie recipe uses three sources of chocolate to make it the ultimate brownie recipe. Cocoa, chocolate syrup, and chips create a fudgy taste.

Brownies, and many other recipes that include chocolate, became popular in the 19th century due to the clever marketing of chocolate manufactures. The first brownie recipe in print appeared in the 1906 cookbook, "Boston Cooking-School Cook Book," according to The Food Timeline.

Since that time, cooks have been changing and tweaking the basic brownie to create an array of sweet confections. Most brownies use one source of chocolate, such as cocoa powder or baking chocolate squares. This unique recipe, however, uses three different sources of chocolate, making it moist and fudgy. Use the highest quality chocolate available to get the best results.

Best Fudge Brownie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of unsalted butter
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 ¼ cup of cocoa
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups of flour
  • 2 Tb chocolate syrup
  • 1 12oz bag of chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan and add sugar. Stir frequently and heat until hot and smooth, but don’t allow it to bubble. Cooking the butter and sugar together before integrating it in the recipe will give the brownies a beautiful shiny crust on top after cooking.
  3. Pour the butter sugar mixture into a large mixing bowl, and stir in the cocoa, salt, baking powder, extracts, syrup, and eggs until the batter is smooth.
  4. Add the flour and chocolate chips, and stir until combined. It’s important to add the flour and chips together at the end of the recipe to prevent the chips from sinking to the bottom of the pan during the cooking process.
  5. Spoon the batter into a greased 9 x 13 pan, and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 28 minutes, or until a cooked through in the center.
  7. After a few minutes, loosen the edges of the brownie with a clean knife, but cool completely before cutting. If the brownies are cut into too soon, they’re likely to fall apart. The smell and sight of the yummy fudge brownies will be tempting, but patience will pay off. Cut into two dozen squares.

Interesting Brownie Variations

Change the kind of chips to create unique flavors. Peanut butter chips work well, as do mint-chocolate chip pieces. Add M&Ms to make a colorful treat for kids, or simply break up a favorite candy bar into small pieces and add to the batter instead of the chips.
